LEE COUNTY, Fla.- People in the Bayshore Fire District are deciding whether or not to change the way the department is funded.

Today, we saw voters holding signs that said "Vote Yes." They no longer want the department funded through taxes, but instead by a flat rate of nearly $600 a year per homeowner.

The chief said that the department has relied heavily on federal grants to get by, but that money is no longer coming in. He said if a new assessment doesn't pass, he'll have to lay off half of his firefighters.
