COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. - A Golden Gate Estates family is trying to clean up after a fire tore through their home on 52nd Lane SW.

Fire investigators from the State Fire Marshal's office are still here in scene working to figure out what started this destructive fire. The back half of the roof is completley gone and the home is a total loss. It all happened before 5:00 a.m. when a mother heard a loud explosion of glass breaking and noticed her back lanai was on on fire and spreading quickly into the kitchen and attic. She scrambled to get her two sons out of the house.

Firefighters arrived to large flames and heat. The fire was so intense that it flashed over on them when they tried to enter, melting and charring one of the firefighter's helmets. That firefighter is OK, and no one was injured.

The family lost everything.

"All her belongings were lost. Her purse was in her bathroom...IDs, everything is gone, you know? Papers...she didn't even have the number of the insurance company. It's devastating," said family friend Socorro Whiteway.

The American Red Cross is working with the family to help them get back on their feet.
