CAPE CORAL, Fla. - Swimming is a way of life in Southwest Florida. There's rarely a day where we don't have the chance to take a dip in the pool. However, there are dangers associated with the everyday fun.

On Friday, June 20, the world's top organizations are joining forces to build awareness about the vital importance of teaching children to swim to help prevent drowning.

The Cape Coral Yacht Club Pool will join water parks, pool and other aquatic facilities around the globe at exactly 11a.m. to host local WLSL lessons simultaneously in an attempt to break the Guinness World Record and tell this important story.

There is no fee to participate in this event, for the event in Cape Coral.

Collier County is also participating. Over 1,300 of kids and adults will be on site at Sun n Fun Lagoon to participate in this global event. Please note this event in Collier County is not open to the public - pre-registered summer camps/groups will be participating in this event.

The World’s Largest Swimming Lesson™ was created to spread the word that Swimming Lessons Save Lives™ – tragically, drowning is the leading cause of death of children 1- 4 and second leading cause of unintended, injury related death of children ages 1-14.
