FORT MYERS, FL.--Just days from now you'll hit the polls to pick the next person to represent southwest Florida in Congress.

Tonight was our last chance to hear from the candidates before next Tuesday's special general election.

WINK News hosted a debate tonight between Democrat April Freeman, Libertarian Ray Netherwood, Republican Curt Clawson and Timothy Rossano, a write-in candidate.

They're fighting to fill Trey Radel's former seat in Congress.

All four candidates agree our nation's veterans deserve better healthcare and that there are problems with the VA.

"We have to figure out a way to take care of people  that have served for our freedom," said Curt Clawson.

"They shouldn't have to wait month for a doctors appointment," said April Freeman.

The candidates have different ideas on how to fix the system.

Another hot discussion was student loans and the tough time many college students have paying for them.

Ray Netherwood says the government is to blame for high college tuition.

"Because the federal government has said everyone should go to college the price of colleges has risen dramatically," said Netherwood.

Netherwood, Clawson.. and Rossano say the government shouldn't be in the student loan business.

"The only way is either to forgive the loans or to bring them over more of a time and reduce the payments for them," said Rossano.

All of the candidates agree on some level that the war in Iraq was a mistake, but differ on how to move forward.

"3-4 years ago we should have left troops in Iraq to back up their forces  to continue to train them," said Netherwood.

"I think enough american lives have been lost," said Clawson.

"We need to deliberate and not act hastily," said Freeman.
