MANATEE COUNTY, Fla.- A dump truck from North Fort Myers spilled a load of mud on southbound I-75 at mile marker 217, just after 9:00 a.m.

The driver, 52-year-old Richard Ford, failed to secure the back gate on the truck, and as a result, the load of mud spilled through the rear gate onto the roadway for 640 feet across all three southbound lanes of the highway.

Ford was uninjured, but was cited for failure to secure load.

The roadway was cleared by DBI and washed down by the East Manatee Fire Deptartment.

The highway has since reopened.
