RIVIERA BEACH, Fla. (AP) - U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio says failing to keep terrorist safe havens from developing in Iraq could make another 9/11 possible.
The Florida Republican said Friday that while on-the-ground troops aren't the best approach, no option should be ruled out, including air strikes to combat a violent Islamic insurgency.
He paired the turmoil in Iraq with an uprising in Syria and plans for U.S. withdrawal in Afghanistan, saying all three pose the risk of becoming areas from which terrorist organizations can plan and authorize attacks against the United States.
At an appearance in Riviera Beach, he said a future 9/11 will be made possible if the U.S. allows other safe havens to emerge.
