COLLIER COUNTY, Fla.- The man who was hit by a vehicle while attempting to flee Collier County Sheriff's deputies yesterday was allegedly running a marijuana grow house with another man in Golden Gate Estates.

Domestic Animal Services also confiscated two dogs and 62 chickens from the house on Keri Island Rd., and now they're investigating if those chickens might have been used in a cockfighting ring.

Deputies seized 72 large plants from the home, valued at more than $200,000. They also found more than $30,000 worth of equipment to grow the plants.

Ivan Mondeja, 27, of Hialeah; and Vladmir Venegas, 43, were running the grow house, according to CCSO. When deputies pulled them over to arrest them on Immokalee Road yesterday, Mondeja, who was in handcuffs at the time, ran into traffic to escape and was hit by a car. He was transported by helicopter to Lee Memorial.

The investigation continues.
