PUNTA GORDA, Fla.- An Englewood man wanted in connection with an occupied residential burglary and battery on the victim turned himself in at the Charlotte County Jail Thursday night.
Joseph Francis Brucker, 24, was wanted in connection with an occupied residential burglary that occurred Monday in the 7600 block of Castleberry Terrace, in which the burglary victim confronted the suspects and was pushed to the ground. Brucker was also wanted in another burglary that occurred that same day at a residence on East 6th Street in Englewood. Detectives had secured warrants for Brucker in both cases.
According to reports, just before 6:00 p.m. Monday, two men went to the Castleberry Terrace home asking about doing yard work. The resident told them she didn’t want any work done and closed the front door. When the victim looked out, the men had loaded a generator from the garage into their truck and were returning to the garage. The victim confronted the men, who took the generator out of their truck. They pushed the victim to the ground and fled the area in an older small reddish pickup truck with a white tailgate.
The second burglary victim from 6th Street reported that someone had entered the laundry room of the house sometime early that same Monday evening and removed the dryer. A neighbor told deputies she saw an older model small pick-up truck with a white tailgate drive by her house with nothing in the truck bed, then return a few minutes later with a dryer in the truck.
During their investigation, detectives learned that Brucker had recently sold a dryer to another Englewood resident. That dryer was identified by the second burglary victim as being the one taken from his house. That dryer matched the washing machine that had been left behind.
Detectives compiled the information gathered in these cases and applied for arrest warrants for Brucker. The warrants were issued on Wednesday June 11.
Brucker turned himself in at the jail late Thursday night. He was charged with Burglary with a Battery, Burglary of an Occupied Structure, Dealing in Stolen Property and two counts of Grand Theft. He is currently being held without bond.
Detectives are continuing to look for a second man involved in these cases.
