PUNTA GORDA, Fla.- The Charlotte County Sheriff's Office and Charlotte County Fire Department responded to a boat sinking in Charlotte Harbor yesterday afternoon.

The Sheriff’s Office received a call just before 4:00 p.m. that a 14-foot boat was taking on water and that there were four people on board. The boat was in Charlotte Harbor in the area of the US 41 bridges. Marine Units from the Sheriff’s Office and the Fire Department both responded. The Sheriff’s Office’s Aviation Unit also responded to help locate the boat.

When the Marine Units arrived at the boat, they found the four people in the water wearing their personal floatation vests. The boat itself was already mostly under water.

The boat’s occupants were taken aboard the Fire Department’s boat and transported to Laishley Park. They appeared to be in good condition. The Sheriff’s Office Marine Unit stayed with the boat until SeaTow arrived to tow the vessel back to Laishley.
