FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla. - Two stranded dolphins were found on Fort Myers Beach this morning. A young male was found dead, while an older female was later euthanized. The animal was in poor condition and having seizures.
The dolphins were found at the fishing pier, near Times Square.
According to Florida Fish and Wildlife, these are Spotted dolphins and it is rare to find them so close to shore. They believed there were more dolphins nearby, but no others were seen during aerial searches.
The reason the dolphins stranded themselves is unclear.
The bodies are being taken to Mote Marine for necropsies.
