TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - A judge in Tampa has granted a delay in the trial of a couple accused of kidnapping their children after losing parental rights and taking them to Cuba.

On Tuesday, the trial was rescheduled to Oct. 6 to accommodate a defense witness.

The Tampa Bay Times (http://bit.ly/Ut6mtK ) reports Hillsborough Circuit Judge Chet Tharpe also ordered a new psychiatric examination of Joshua Hakken by a doctor who said he was incompetent last year. Other examiners have found Hakken to be delusional but able to assist in his defense. A competency hearing will be held July 10.

Hakken and his wife Sharyn took their boys, who were 2 and 4 at the time, on a sailboat to Cuba in 2013.

The couple lost custody of the children last year after a drug possession arrest in Louisiana.
