This allows them to not only renovate the facility, but now, put more of their money back into the community and toward their mission.
City council and community partners spent around a decade working at this, and had to raise $235,000 to close this final gap. They even called in the support of big names like Magic Johnson, who helped fundraise for the center. People from the community also stepped up to the plate, including a homeless women who gave just one dollar.
"To see that homeless woman give up money like that shows that, despite her economic situation, she understood the value of sustaining programs for our children, and Magic Johnson, who happens to be at the other spectrum of life, still acknowledges and recognizes that he must reach into the community and be a part of the success and the future of that community," said Abdul'haq Muhammed, founder and excutive director of the Q Center.
The center thanked that homeless women for her gift by giving her $20 back.
