LEE COUNTY, FL.--FWC officials are kicking off boating safety month by making sure you have all the required safety equipment on board your boat.

Officers will be out cruising Southwest Florida's waterways at night to make sure you are safe at night.

Here is what is required by law to always have with you on the boad:

--Life jackets for everyone on board

--Flares and the flare launcher

--Red and green navigational lights that are working

--Some kind of sound device to put out a loud sound

--A coast guard approved fire extinguisher

--Always have a valid copy of your boats registration.
