LEE COUNTY, Fla.- Commissioner Brian Hamman will declare August 13, 2014 as "Jim Reif Day" in honor of the late Southwest Florida meteorologist.

Hamman will make the proclamation on June 3, at 9:00 a.m., at the Lee County Board of County Commissioners Chambers.

Jim Reif died on April 7 of this year, after a bicycle accident. He was been a fixture of Southwest Florida television since 1979, and was even part of our WINK News family, having spent 20 years at WINK, alongside Lois Thome, Jim McLaughlin, and our own Chief Meteorologist Jim Farrell.

Reif joined Waterman Broadcasting in 1999 as the Chief Meteorologist for ABC7, and recently moved to NBC2 as the Director of Meteorology for the company's television stations.

Ten years ago on August 13, 2004, Southwest Florida was threatened by Hurricane Charley and Reif was there to help guide residents.
