CAPE CORAL, Fla. - If you're out on the water in southwest Florida, you might have seen one of these BBQ Donut Boats! Its got the grill, and its got the shape that causes a lot of stares!
Marcel Stadtmann is one of the creators, and CEO of the BBQ Donut Boat business. "Everybody is excited about this boat," he said.
He moved to Cape Coral from Switzerland last year. "We saw that first in Switzerland, and then we made a decision to spread it out in Florida," he explained.
The BBQ Donut Boat comes equipped with a charcoal grill, or instead of a grill, you can choose to turn it into a huge ice bucket. It also comes with a sound system for music, including a Bluetooth connection, and lights for night-time rides.
"I think the looks of it, and the people being in the environment where they can all face each other and converse, is the draw. Versus on a boat where everyone is facing the same way," said Cape Coral resident Keith Johns. "This seems to be like the dining room table."
As far as speed, these donuts roll about five miles per hour. The boat might look inflatable. but it's actually hard, and Marcel says it's impossible to sink. "You can split the boat in 8 parts, or 10 parts, and every part will float by themselves!"
The mold is built by a specialist in Germany. And shipped to the United States. "You can have business meetings on them. We've had several companies have managers meetings on them," explained Jim Devlin, with the company.
Of course, you can also rent them for pleasure.
Renting the boat cost $375 for three hours, and you can find deals online, at times. It includes the cleaning fee, as well as the charcoal and gas. The boats can fit 8 to 10 people. You can bring your own food and drinks, or order catering through a joint business venture with the company.
