CAPE CORAL, Fla.- The driver involved in an ATV crash in April has died from injuries sustained.
Toxicology results are still pending from the Medical Examiner’s Office, but preliminary medical tests showed Andrew Casey Baldwin had a blood alcohol concentration at the hospital showed 0.340.
Cape Coral Police responded to the 2300 block of SW 50th Ln. on April 27th, after Baldwin lost control of the ATV and hit and mail box and a tree. Baldwin was air-lifted to Lee Memorial Hospital.
Police said Baldwin traveled west on his ATV in the residential neighborhood on SW 50 Lane. He accelerated to at least 30 mph and lost control of his vehicle. The vehicle veered left, turned sideways, and struck a mailbox. The ATV rolled over and Baldwin struck the driveway of 2316 SW 50 Lane with his head and continued west where he and the ATV struck a palm tree. Baldwin was located against the tree with the ATV on top of him.
At Lee Memorial Hospital, staff said that Baldwin suffered massive head and internal injuries. Baldwin is currently listed in critical condition.
Baldwin was not wearing any safety gear during the time of the traffic crash.
The investigation continues.
