COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. - A WINK News exclusive story is helping to shed light on another crime. WINK News first told you about a $240thousand boat that was stolen Saturday in Naples. Now a local man says the truck hauling that boat is his and it was stolen in the daylight.
"It's just very, very valuable asset to our organization," said boat owner Daniel Atwell. "We need it bad."
The boat heist was caught on camera and Wink News has exclusive pictures.
"Obviously somebody was gonna steal a boat and they needed a heavy enough truck suitable to pull the boat and had their eyes out and found ours unfortunately," said Atwell.
Atwell uses the truck for his son Michael's race team. Michael is only 14-years-old and already a licensed Nascar driver. Daniel Atwell says a friend saw his truck on Wink News and contacted him.
"It had all the identified stuff on it," said Atwell. "The license tag with #51, tag on the side window with Michael's name on it and a big red boat that wasn't ours behind it."
Atwell uses the truck to haul Michael's car in a trailer to races across the state. He says the truck also had thousands of dollars worth of equipment inside
"Generators, hand tools you name it," said Atwell.
The truck was stolen from Atwell's garage on Enterprise Avenue. Its located about six miles from where the boat was last seen. Atwell says without a truck they can't get to this weekend's race at the Desoto Speedway.
"That's the important stuff because now we're scrambling to figure out what we're gonna do for this weekend when we go racing," said Atwell.
Luckily, several sponsors have offered to help. But, Atwell hopes someone sees the truck and turns it in.
