PENSACOLA, Fla. (AP) - With hurricane season approaching, Florida emergency officials are urging the elderly to take precautions to ensure they are prepared.
People with mobility issues or health problems should register with local emergency officials for extra help in a major storm. The Florida Department of Elder Affairs says all older Floridians should plan now for what they will do if a storm hits their area.
The agency is urging people to prepare evacuation kits with a supply of their regular prescription medications, water, flashlights, non-perishable foods and other items they might need if they get stuck on the road while evacuating. Officials also say it is important for people to know where they will go if a storm approaches and to leave well ahead of the storm.
