FORT MYERS, Fla. - Catherine Stephenson says she got a voice mail telling her she'd won 500 thousand dollars in the Publisher's Clearing House Sweepstakes. She called the number on the message and was immediately drawn into the scam. She was told she had to send money to pay the taxes on the prize. At first the callers asked for 28 hundred dollars. When Stephenson said she could not afford that, the caller allegedly told her they would be able to accept a partial payment. They agreed on 1 thousand dollars. Stephenson wired the money only to realize later that she's been scammed. She says she got caught up in the excitement of winning a big prize and simply moved to quickly before thinking it through. Stephenson has a message for other seniors out there who may get a similar call, "Don't send money"!
