Starting Saturday May 31st several Lee County animal shelters will participate in the 5th Maddie's Fund Pet Adoption Days.

The two day event is a huge opportunity for local shelters and the public to take home a dog or cat free of charge. The event is held every year designed to increase awareness of homeless animals, boost adoptions, and support shelters and rescue organizations.

Normally those wishing to adopt a pet have to pay adoption and vaccination fees. However those are waived and all pets are up to date on current shots, spayed/neutered and microchipped.

More than 200 shelters in 14 different communities across the United States participate in Maddie's Fund Pet Adoption Days.

Locally you can adopt from the Animal Refuge Center in North Ft. Myers or the Petco at the Forum. From 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. both May 31st and June 1st.

You must prequalify to adopt a pet which can be done in advance, online.
