LEE COUNTY, Fla.- A double-murderer is trying to get a new trial in Lee County.

Fred Cooper, 35, is serving a life sentence for the killing of Michelle and Steven Andrews. He claims his lawyers did not represent him properly in relation to DNA evidence.

The case is one of the most notorious in Southwest Florida. A young, professional couple was found murdered in their townhome. Their infant son was found unharmed in that Gateway home.

The State proved Steven Andrews was having an affair with Cooper's ex-girlfriend, and convinced a jury that was the motive for the killings.

In a hearing this morning, Cooper's attorney presented an expert on DNA, Gina Pineda, who said the DNA found under the fingernails of Michelle Andrews was difficult to read and could match a number of people besides Cooper.
