NORTH FORT MYERS, Fla - Lee County Sheriff's deputies arrested Levi Greenup yesterday for Aggravated Child Abuse after allegedly throwing a 3-year-old onto a concrete step and a pointed corner of a wooden table after learning he had defecated in his pants.

The child was not Greenup's biological son, but according to deputies, the toddler still called Greenup "Daddy".

According to the investigation, the boy was brought to a local hospital on May 11 where a nurse reported that he looked malnourished, was emaciated and abnormally bloated. Following testing, medical staff determined the child was suffering from excessive fluid build-up in his abdomen which was causing the abdomen to become extremely distended and painful. The decision was made to life-flight the child to Miami Children's Hospital for care. There, medical staff drained approximately two gallons of fluid from the little boy's abdomen. The doctor told detectives the injury was "life threatening had medical intervention not been performed."

The investigation revealed that Greenup was watching the boy on April 20 and became enraged when the boy defecated in his pants. That's when Greenup reportedly threw the child onto the step and the edge of the table. The boy allegedly doubled over in pain, holding his stomach. During the next two weeks, deputies say Greenup saw the child's health was failing and his abdomen was swelling, but he waited three weeks to enlist a family member to bring the boy to the hospital.

Still hospitalized, the child requires a tube to assist with eating.
