CAPE CORAL, Fla.- This weekend marks the official kick off to the summer travel season, and if you're hitting the roads, remember to buckle up.

Police in Cape Coral are stationed along 15th Avenue and 47th Terrace today, participating in the nationwide seat belt campaign commonly known as "Click It Or Ticket." This is one of three other locations where you'll run into officers, as they look to see if you have your seat belt on.

The Click It Or Ticket campaign is a nationwide push to increase safety and promote education. Today, police want to saturate the city and let you know that seat belts save lives. Statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration show that in 2012, of the thousands killed in collisions across the nation, almost half were not wearing seat belts.

At night, drivers are even less likely to buckle up, and teens and young adults are at higher risk, especially young men.
