FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla.- Money is coming between two organizations on fort Myers Beach. The Chamber of Commerce owes the Chamber Foundation thousands of dollars in back pay for rent and for loans. WINK News is learning the loss in funds could start effecting the children on Fort Myers Beach, a settlement is needed and needed now.
The Fort Myers Beach Chamber Foundation is in deep debt.
"The chamber just didn't have the money to make the payments to make the rent," said President of the foundation, Fran Myers.
They didn't pay their monthly rent of $2,700 for more than a year and that's why in November, they were asked to leave their headquarters on San Carlos Boulevard.
"The bank sent us a letter and said there was no more money in the account," said Myers.
The chamber foundation owns the building meaning there was no money coming in for that rent. In turn, there could be less money to help the children on Fort Myers Beach.
"We will continue to do whatever is needed for the children of this area, but do we need that money back? Yes, we do."
"This chamber is working to pay debts we have had, but we are healthier than we were 6 months ago," said President of Fort Myers Beach Chamber of Commerce, Bud Nocera.
Bud Nocera tells WINK News, the chamber is cutting costs and rebuilding memberships, while also moving to a smaller building so he can eventually repay the debt that is owned.
"We will move forward together, that issue with the foundation will be addressed and the chamber will go on and be successful," said Nocera.
Now, the chamber foundation is hoping a resolution can be made and this issue wont go to court. As far as the total amount owed, that is still being calculated, but the foundation owes more than $400,000 on the old location.
