LEE COUNTY, Fla.- Counselors are at several schools in Desoto County after a 15-year-old student was shot and killed on Friday.

Melvin Hearns was a student at Desoto Connections, who was shot and killed on Friday.

Family members said Hearns was in a car when someone opened fire. The driver lost control, ran over a speed limit sign and slammed into a fence.

Only WINK News spoke to the woman who owns the home the boys crashed into. For her own safety, she didn't want to show her face on camera, but said she was out running errands when the wild scene unfolded.

Another victim, 19-year-old Deandre Williams was shot in the leg.

WINK News has learned Desoto deputies are searching for the suspect vehicle, which they say is a black or midnight blue Chevy Impala.
