TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - Closing arguments are expected in the trial of a Tampa woman accused of killing her two teenage children.
Julie Schenecker has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of Calyx, her 16-year-old daughter and Beau, her 13-year-old son. The teens were shot to death while her now ex-husband was on a 10-day Army deployment to the Middle East.
Wednesday was the seventh day of testimony in the trial. Prosecutors called three mental health experts as rebuttal witnesses.
The experts said the 53-year-old had struggled with mental illness for years but was sane at the time of the shootings.
Prosecutors say Schenecker planned to kill her children. Defense attorneys are using an insanity defense.
Schenecker will not testify on her own behalf.
