FORT MYERS, Fla. -- The red cross is helping three families after a sprinkler head broke in at the Lexington Palms Apartment Complex on Omni Lane, just off MLK Jr. Blvd.

Firefighters say a man was cooking when the sprinkler head popped off. The water destroyed everything in that unit. Kayla Tubens, the woman who lives in the apartment below, said at first, she thought something was wrong with her apartment. "I was in bed, I was sleeping and I thought that my boyfriend left something on," Tubens said.  "I thought the stove was on and I thought it was just in our apartment. Then he goes outside and sees it's everywhere."

Firefighters shut off the water and electricity in the complex and did not give any indication on when those two utilities would be restored.

The apartment complex is working to find out why the sprinkler head broke.
