CAPE CORAL, Fla.- A Bonita Springs man was arrested on May 3rd for attempting to take a Kemp's Ridley sea turtle from Horton Park.

Hoang Van Le, 65, faces charges based on the state law prohibiting destroying, molesting or selling turtle, eggs or nests.

According to FWC, a concerned citizen saw a man catch the turtle, and approached him to let him know it was illegal to keep the animal. The man reportedly tied the turtle up anyway and put it in a cooler in his van.

The citizen called the FWC and reported what he had seen. FWC Officers arrived and found the turtle before the man left the park.

The man was arrested for possession of a protected species and taken to the Lee County Jail. The turtle was released alive and unharmed.
