FORT MYERS, Fla.- Fort Myers Police are investigating a home invasion on Edgewood Ave. near Van Buren St.

Police say a woman was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital after being assaulted, and is in stable condition.

The preliminary investigation revealed an unknown black male suspect entered the residence and attacked the victim. The black male, only described as wearing a light green t-shirt, fled the residence in a white newer model Toyota Camry.

Initially a 3-year old child was believed to be missing by the victim as a result of the offense, but was quickly located hiding inside the residence by police. The child was taken into police custody and later released to a parent.

One neighbor describes just how hechtic the scene was.  She says, "I came over here, that's when I noticed a car coming, running over here like crazy.  I saw the paramedic, I saw the ambulance."

Detectives and Crime Scene Technicians were on scene for most of Thursday, collecting evidence and conducting a neighborhood canvass to develop additional witnesses.

One woman tells WINK News, "I've been here 14 years, so I know it's not just the area.  It's just our sinful world we live in."
