ENGLEWOOD, Fla.- Charlotte County Sheriff's deputies arrested 53-year-old Rock Lavoie yesterday after patrons at an Englewood beach business reported he had displayed a firearm inside a bar over the weekend.

Deputies were called to Calico Jack’s shortly after 1:00 a.m. on Saturday after patrons reported that a man had been inside the bar displaying a handgun and actually pointing it at someone.

Deputies located Lavoie, appeared to match the description of the man from Calico Jack’s, walking along Beach Road. Due to the possibility of a firearm being present, he was ordered to the ground several times. Deputies located a loaded .45 caliber handgun in his fanny pack. The firearm was taken as evidence in the case.

Witnesses at the bar reported seeing Lavoie pull the handgun out and put it on the bar. The witnesses notified management personnel at Calico Jack’s and they called the Sheriff’s Office.

Detectives reviewed the case and watched the video from the bar, which allegedly showed Lavoie pull out the firearm and point it at a man, who took the gun away from him and put it on the bar. It appeared that other patrons gathered and Lavoie left the business.

During the investigation detectives found that Lavoie had a concealed weapons permit, but one of the provisions of such a permit prohibits permit-holders to carry a concealed weapon into an “establishment licensed to dispense alcoholic beverages for consumption” (FSS 790.06 12a).

Lavoie was charged with Carrying a Concealed Firearm with a License in Specific Prohibited Locations, Improper Exhibition of a Firearm and Disorderly Conduct at a Public Food Establishment. He is being held at the Charlotte County Jail on a $6,000 bond.
