A nine year veteran of the Florida Highway Patrol was killed after being struck by vehicle while she was working a traffic crash on I-75 in Marion County Saturday afternoon.  FHP says Trooper Chelsea Richard died after she, a tow truck driver and another pedestrian were hit  by a pickup truck involved in a separate nearby crash.  FHP says the pedestrian was transported to the hospital but died late Saturday night.  Investigators say they are in the beginning stages to sort through the physical evidence and witness statements relating to this crash.  Charges are pending the completion of the traffic homicide investigation which could take several months.
Trooper Chelsea Richard was a 9 year veteran of the Florida Highway Patrol.  Chelsea joined the FHP on June 20, 2005 and graduated from the 111th Basic Recruit Class on January 12, 2006.  .  Trooper Richard is the 45th Florida Highway Patrol Trooper to be killed in the line of duty.
