Cape Coral, Fla. - WINK News was there as 34-year-old Casey Ortiz stood before a Lee County judge a day after being arrested. The former Cape Coral police officer is accused of having sex with a 16-year-old girl. "You will have no contact with any minors," she said. "No contact with the victim."
In a brand new arrest warrant, we're learning more about how the alleged sexual relationship quickly heated up. The teen told investigators she got in trouble with her parents one day in the fall of 2013 and they called police.
She said Ortiz, a responding officer, slipped her his cell phone number and invited her to take a ride in his police car.
After their second ride, the teen claims they went straight to Ortiz's house where "they then started kissing and he touched her vagina over her clothes."
She told investigators they had sex but "the officer took (her) home and told her not to say anything about this."
On the third ridealong, she said the same thing happened. Ortiz allegedly claimed he was 23 and they communicated via "Kik" a smartphone messaging app.
When investigators checked her phone for Ortiz's numbers, they were listed as "Fav Cop" and "My Booboo Cop."
Ortiz adamantly denied any sexual contact when interviewed, though he did admit it was wrong to take her in his car. His attorney Joe Viacava is asking everyone to keep an open mind until all the facts are out. "He's potentially fired from his job, accused of being an alleged rapist/pedophile," Viacava said. "I don't know how he can move on, life is in limbo, that's why we are looking forward to getting all the evidence."
Ortiz is on administrative leave without pay.
While the teen's mother didn't want to comment on the case specifically, she said she's thankful for the quick work done by Cape Coral Police Department.
