LEE COUNTY, Fla.- An alleged child rapist is behind bars after the mother of the child claimed she saw him performing sex acts on her 3-year-old girl yesterday evening. In the arrest report, the mother of the child stated that 46-year-old Luis DeJesus was at the Banyan Tree apartment complex to work on her car. She told police she left the room, and when she came back, she saw DeJesus committing the act.

The woman said chased him out of the home, hitting him with a broom before calling police. EMS arrived on the scene to evaluate the child. Police found Dejesus running on Veronica Shoemaker Blvd.

After new of the alleged sexual assault, neighbors expressed their disgust.

"People are sick nowadays," said Victor Nieves, "really sick."

Ian Hefferan, who does landscaping in the area, said, "I've seen him before a couple times when I used to cut the grass around here and pick up. He's done maintenance work on a couple cars," he continued. "I didn't expect it of the guy but it doesn't surprise me either."

Hefferan said he's appalled at the violence in Fort Myers. "A lot more people have to be a lot more protective around their family," he said.

According to Fort Myers Police, Dejesus is facing charges of capital sexual battery.  He was arrested and transported to the Lee County Jail. - See more at:
