PUNTA GORDA, Fla.- Punta Gorda Police arrested 59-year-old Fred Lee Sheetz around 1:00 p.m. for Animal Cruelty after allegedly hitting a puppy in the head numerous times outside of Hungry Howie's.

Police arrived at the restaurant, located at 226 Tamiami Trail, and spoke with witnesses who said Sheetz had thrown the 13-to-14-week-old English Pointer in his vehicle by the back of his neck and proceeded to strike the puppy the area of his head about 10 times.

When asked why Sheetz was hitting the puppy, he allegedly said, “That is how I train my dog, and the dog needs to accept me.”
