FORT MYERS, Fla. - Fort Myers Police are investigating a murder inside Shady Oaks Park. FMPD said someone shot 27-year-old Devon Kennedymultiple times around 3:30 Tuesday morning.
No suspect has been named yet.
Fort Myers Police Detective Sergeant Brian O'Reilly said, "An officer heard the shots fired, patrolled the area, patrolled the park and found the individual lying on the ground."
He added, "It's tough without witnesses, and that's what we're trying to find. There could be someone in the park that was there at the time, we're trying to find out who may have been there, trying to look for any video, canvass the area, anyone who heard something, saw something suspicious so we're trying to work the community to help give us some leads and give us closure to this case and justice to the victim's family. If you live in the area and heard anything or saw anything suspicious if you could let us know, you can remain anonymous."
He also said, "Most people aren't in parks at 3:30 in the morning so we're trying to find out what the victim was doing there, how he got here and who he was with. We believe this is an isolated incident so there's no threat to the community at all. So just do their due diligence, if they see anything suspicious, give us a call, if something seems a little strange, give us a call, we're here for them."
