COLLIER COUNTY, Fla.- In and out in a matter of seconds. Exclusive new video on WINK News of a crook running off with a loaded cash register from a Collier County restaurant. Deputies said the theif went through a lot of work to get the money.
Surveillance video you'll see only on WINK News capture a restaurant thief in action. Deputies said he's 36 year old Stephen Rossiter.
"I felt like crying and going crazy."
Deputies said this exclusive video shows Rossiter stealing a safety deposit box and cash register with thousands of dollars inside.
"You know you work so hard, and you save this money which we were going to deposit on Monday for payments and stuff and it was all gone," said owner Marcos Soto.
According to an arrest report obtained by WINK News, Rossiter jumped this fence, then pulled down the metal mesh attached to a side window. The restaurant's owner, Marcos Soto said just a few weeks ago he upgraded his system after his car was stolen.
"We have cameras, we have alarm, so really there's nothing else I can do but keep it up."
Detectives found the cash register in the parking lot empty. And Soto did some investigating of his own, even offering a reward.
"I offered to the homeless around here, we give them food sometimes, and so people knew him and like one came and told me he dyed his hair from brown to blonde."
Deputies said they actually recognized Rossiter from his tattoos, having recently questioned him about another robbery.
"I'm happy they caught him but it hasn't gotten my money back," said Soto. "Hopefully it won't happen again."
