BOKEELIA, Fla. -- A deadly boat crash in Bokeelia takes the life of a swimming and diving coach at the University of Florida.

It happened after two boats collided near Jugg Creek, on the northern tip of Pine Island. The University of Florida confirms to WINK News Donnie Craine, 61, died. A good samaritan brought Craine here to Four Winds Marina, moments after the collision.

A day on the water turns tragic, taking the life a beloved University of Florida diving coach Donnie Craine. Only WINK News took to the water, capturing the wreckage after the collision

FWC says a 25 foot blue SeaCraft collided with a Pathfinder 2000, the one Craine was riding in. FWC says it appears both boats turned towards each other which caused the collision.

It happened near channel marker 12 in an area, boaters say, has a dangerous blind curve.

"There is a very blind area. Right before you get to the 4 Winds Marina. There's always a potential that something could happen in that one spot," said boater Peter Hoyt.

"Seems to be, it's an area where there's been certainly close calls myself, where people don't have the experience of boating and make the corner. So if that's where the accident occurred it wouldn't be a surprise," said boater Dave Werren.

FWC is now going to recreate the collision to find out exactly what happened
