FORT MYERS, Fla.- A Florida softshell turtle that was carrying eggs was admitted to the Conservancy of Southwest Florida's clinic after being struck by a car in Fort Myers.

The rescuers kept the turtle in their bath tub overnight until the Conservancy could help arrange for transport the following day. The turtle is now receiving care as she recovers from a fractured carapace and spinal trauma.

Many species of turtles are active as they search for food and suitable habitat. If you see a turtle attempting to cross the road, the Conservancy asks that you safely pull over and offer assistance. If you find an injured turtle, immediately bring it to the wildlife hospital.
