PUNTA GORDA, Fla.- Members of the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office, Punta Gorda Police Department and Charlotte Correctional Institute participated in the Law Enforcement Torch Run for the benefit of Special Olympics this morning.

The Torch Run officially began at 9:30 a.m., at the Publix at Airport Rd. in Punta Gorda, with the runners being escorted up the right-most lane of US 41 northbound by marked patrol cars and motor units.

The runners made their way along the approximate 10-mile route, detouring briefly to go past the Charlotte Harbor School. The students stood along the school’s fence to cheer the runners on.

It took the runners about two hours to reach their destination, which was the Publix at Cochran and US 41.
