CAPE CORAL, Fla.- Cape Christian Church is ready to open a new, public park on its grounds, starting Friday evening. The church is spending at least 2-million dollars to build Fellowship Park on Chiquita Blvd. in the Southwest Cape.

"This is so exciting, it is going to be all-encompassing and great fun for families," says Van Ibasan, who works for the church.

The five acres will feature basketball courts, a fountain, a splash pad with 57 water jets, a playground, and, in a few weeks,  a coffee-house and restaurant.

Ibasan says, part of the idea is to say thanks to the community for its support over the years.   And he adds,  getting some new people for worship services, could be a by-product of the park's attractions.

"We do want to have people here, and those who are ready, we will be positioned to open a conversation with them," explains Ibasan.

At least one neighbor is objecting.  Bob Carpinello tells WINK News:  "It is just going to be very disturbing to me in my house.   and not just some of the time, but a lot.  In the summer, the noise is going to be an every day event."

Ibasan says the church is not looking for a fight.  He says the church is willing to work with any neighbor who has a problem with the park or the crowds it might attract.

The church is celebrating the park opening with large services on Easter weekend.
