NAPLES, Fla.- Shoppers beware. Naples Police said crooks are targeting your wallet while you shop.
"I find that sometimes people will leave their purse in the shopping bag and they're just asking for it. If they leave it in the cart, they're asking for trouble."
Lieutenant John Barkley with Naples Police tells WINK News, it only took thieves a matter of seconds on Monday to swipe three wallets right out of purses left unattended in shopping carts. Two wallets were stolen from shoppers at Fresh Market on 41, then less than an hour later, crooks grabbed another wallet at a Publix just blocks away on 41.
"These people were in a different part of the store, the cart was close by, but they were busy you know looking at produce or looking at dates on on stuff and just trying to see what they were going to select. And it just takes a split second for someone to take advantage of that," said Lt. Barkley.
Lt. Barkley said surveillance video shows the female suspect taking a wallet from a fourth victim. But at this point, that woman has not come forward yet.
"Somebody out there's a victim and they don't even realize."
