COLLIER COUNTY, Fla.- Homeowners are taking extreme action to protect themselves. WINK News has learned they're hiring private armed security guards to protect their homes.

"I think that the perception could be considered excessive to some until your life depends on it," said Chris Knott with Naples Security Solutions.

Knott's partner Mike Perl said, "It's a solution. It's not for everyone."

In the past two months, gunmen have invaded five Collier County homes. According to law enforcement, the victims were bound and robbed of mostly cash and jewelry. These violent crimes have instilled fear, many wondering who will be targeted next, so they are taking extreme measures

"People don't have the ability to turn back the hands of time. I think thats influencing some of the decisions our clients are making now," said Knott.

"The clients have expressed to us on numerous occasions a piece of mind they have with having us here," said Perl.

Perl and Knott come with a unique background, it includes SWAT and Secret Service.

Knott said, "It enables us to provide an immediate response and insulate our clients from harms way. But even more so, if they were to never show up, it allows them to live their lives the way they would in the absence of these home invasions."

The Collier County Sheriff's Office tells WINK News they encourage residents to take whatever measures they feel are appropriate to protect their family. They have a task force in place that meets daily to try and solve these crimes.

CCSO has also set up a tip hotline. The local number is 239.252.0300. Or to remain anonymous and be eligible for a reward contact Crime Stoppers at 1.800.780.8477.
