LEE COUNTY, Fla.- It's three against one.
Congressional candidates Elizabeth Benacquisto, Miichael Dreikorn, and Paige Kreegel are demanding answers from Curt Clawson, about his alleged ties to a convicted child sex offender.
It's something you don't always see, three opposing candidates working together.
So WINK News looked into the allegations.
We were able to confirm that Glen Borst is in fact a registered sex offender with the State of Utah.
According to the Utah Department of Corrections website, Borst was convicted in 2004 for attempted aggravated sex abuse of a child.
His last registered address with the state, was a home in Saratoga Springs, Utah.
That was in September.
Authorities say he was supposed to re-register on March 31, but did not.
A spokesperson with DOC told WINK News that since seeing the reports, Borst has contacted authorities.
That home, according to the Utah County tax appraisal site, lists Curt Clawson at the official owner from 2009-2012.
Clawson made transactions toward buying the home in 2006, and granted Borst a power of attorney in 2006 to help with that deal.
It then lists Clawson's company, Rewired CEO Utah, as taking over the deed in 2013 and 2014.
But then Clawson turned the deed over again, to a separate owner, in February.
Congressional District 19 candidates Lizbeth Benacquisto, Dr. Michael Dreikorn, and Dr. Paige Kreegel will be joined by community leaders and law enforcement officials to address concerned citizens and the media tomorrow at 4:00 p.m. at a location in Fort Myers to be announced.
Benacquisto, Dreikorn and Kreegel released the following joint statement today, demanding that Curt Clawson explain contradictory statements he allegedly made regarding his relationship with a convicted sex offender.
"Now more than ever, we stand together to put politics aside to address some very serious questions that have been raised in this race. As candidates for the United States Congress – but more importantly as parents and members of this community - there is no greater priority than protecting our children from the violent predators who target them. Recent news reports have brought into question Curt Clawson's relationship with a violent child rapist in Utah. He has dismissed these news reports as politically driven, and that just couldn't be further from the truth."
