DESOTO COUNTY, Fla.- An Arcadia woman who was attacked in her own home is out of the ICU, according to the family's pastor.
Karl Burnham, 49, is in custody without bond.
Deputies said Burnham killed his father, George, and attacked his mother, Joann, inside their home on Owens Avenue last week.
"Hi Joanne, just wanted to let you know you are missed."
"Get well soon, we love you."
"This is Bob Grinnis. May The Lord bless you and strengthen you."
These are just some of the prayers and well wishes, that keep flowing for JoAnn Burnham. Joann is in the hospital, recovering from a brutal attack, that left her husband, George, dead, allegedly at the hands of their son Karl.
"She is going to have so many hugs and we just care for her. And we are looking forward for that day that she can come back," said Terri Booher.
She's known the couple for about a year and a half.
The family attends Mt. Ephraim Church in Arcadia.
Members there spent Sunday making hand made cards.
"People just flocked to those tables. They got to pick the paper and the stickers and everything and it was great," said Booher, who is also the pastor's wife.
They wanted to return the favor, for a woman they call "Scrappy Nana," a woman known for her own heartfelt cards.
"She has all the birthdays, all the anniversaries, everything and she knew each one of those," said Booher.
Burnham now faces charges of First Degree Murder, attempted murder and grand theft of a vehicle. He is currently being held inside the Desoto County Jail.
