LEE COUNTY, Fla.- The South Trail Fire Department responded to Six Mile Charter Academy after pepper spray went off at the school today.

According to the fire chief, seven patients were treated on the scene. One child was transported to the hospital for treatment.

The school was evacuated. Parents were notified through Parent Link to pick up their children. There was an early dismissal, and children who ride the bus were taken home.

The father of the boy who allegedly sprayed the pepper spray into a bathroom at the school, said his son was being bullied, and probably brought the substance out of fear. The boy's father said this doesn't justify the boy's actions. He said the boy is facing a 45-day suspension and could be sent to the Alternative Learning Center.
