NAPLES, Fla. - Collier County neighbors say they're scared to go to sleep after two little girls were nearly *kidnapped. The Collier County Sheriff's Office said it happened on Johnnycake Drive on Sunday. Deputies said they were on their bikes when a strange man tried to lure them into his car using money.
"Angry that some dirtbag is gonna do that" said Ken Layne.
Layne's 9-year old daughter and her friend were targeted. He said, "the biggest thing is, it just scared the girls."
The neighborhood where it happened is a place where parents said children play outside all the time. One child WINK News spoke to said "I didn't think it would happen in our neighborhood."
They tell WINK News what happened is scary and that's why they're getting prepared. The children said if it happens again they think they have a plan to handle it, "just run to the nearest house and tell the adult there and get the little kids away."
"You need to have a buddy system, thats the way we're gonna keep our kids safe" said Donna Goldblatt. She lives on the street where the incident happened. She said when the children are at a safe distance making sure they grab the license plate number of any suspicious vehicle is key.
Goldblatt said the news spread quickly in her neighborhood and that she used it to remind her 3 children how to act around strangers. She said, "let them know what to do and where to go, you know a safe place if something should happen."
The victims said the man was in his 40's. He drove a black Jeep Cherokee that looked waxed but had dirty rims.
