FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Monday is the last day voters can register to cast a ballot in the special primary election on April 22nd to replace former Congressman Trey Radel.

There are seven republican candidates vying to represent Florida's 19th district. Congressman Radel was caught buying cocaine late last year and resigned, prompting the special election.

Running for the GOP are State Senator Lizbeth Benacquisto, Curt Clawson,  Michael Dreikorn, Dr. Paige Kreegel and write in candidate Timothy Rossano.

Whoever wins the republican race will face Democrat April Freeman and Libertarian candidate Ray Netherwood.  Once southwest florida elects a republican candidate-- a special election for the U.S. House of Representatives will be June 24th.

The winning candidate will only stay in office until November when general elections takes place.
