COLLIER COUNTY, Fla.- Collier County Sheriff's deputies arrested 21-year-old Tyler Poczatek yesterday, for allegedly beating a child. The victim was hospitalized, put on a breathing tube, and sustained lifelong injuries from the attack.

Poczatek faces charges of aggravated child abuse and child neglect for the incident that happened on February 25.

According to his arrest report, he was watching the child when he claimed the victim had fallen down the stairs in the garage, and was unconscious.

A deputy found the child lying unconscious on the garage floor, with blood coming from his ear. There were visible injuries to the child's face, and his breathing was shallow. He also had bruises on his forehead, eyelid, upper lip, elbow and a welt behind his ear.

The victim was transported to Tampa General Hospital, due to the severity of his injuries. Doctors determined it was impossible that the child's injuries had happened from a fall from a height of 19 and a half inches, the height of the garage stairs.

On Wednesday, the child was brought to the Children's Advocacy Center for a forensic interview. According to the deputy, it was obvious that the victim had a great deal of difficulty walking and required assistance. The child then candidly told authorities that Poczatek hurt him, and demonstrated what Poczatek did to him, using a stuffed animal, without being prompted.

Deputies determined that Poczatek hit the child in the face and threw him to the ground. He was arrested yesterday and brought to jail without incident.
