LEHIGH ACRES, Fla.- Lee County Domestic Animal Services seized 13 severely malnourished dogs, as well as two that were found dead, at 105 Harold Ave. S. yesterday.

A tip led investigators to the home, where several attempts were made to reach the residents. On the final visit, an investigator reportedly saw feces seeping out from under the garage door, as well as a noticeable odor. The investigator looked into the garage window and saw a dog in visible distress, and other dogs in cages, sitting in their own waste.

They confiscated a total of 15 dogs, two of which were found dead in an adjacent lot. Four puppies, a number of juveniles and four adult dogs were taken. All of the dogs were pit bulls, except for one. All of the animals were severely malnourished with their rib cages showing. One of the dogs had untreated mange, leaving it nearly entirely bald, with scabs. Many of the dogs also had worms.

The investigation is ongoing.
