LEE COUNTY, Fla - Every day in Lee County, hundreds of volunteers knock on doors and deliver hot meals to senior citizens and others in need in our community.

The volunteers work for Community Cooperative Ministries' Meals on Wheels program.

March is March for Meals Month, a way to shine light on the issue of hunger in Southwest Florida.

In Lee County the Meals on Wheels drivers log 100,000 miles a year, delivering hundreds of thousands of meals to the communies most vulnerable citizens.

Stacey Cannington with CCMI says, "Especially in our area the need is so great, and sometimes the meals on wheels people are the only people our seniors see everyday."

CCMI can always use more volunteers or donations of food or money.

They also ask seasonal residents to bring the food from their pantries to CCMI before they leave for the summer months.
